Detox is just the tentative title for something I had in my head for a while. Therefore, I thought BEDA will be a good way to share the story spurts I have in my head. It’ll probably go on as a four-part micro-fic series, so enjoy!
DETOX, Part 1
“Jasmine will help soothe the heat,” he said, “And rid you of those toxins.”
The weight on her neck attempted to balance out, the flames from last night’s spirits now hummed under her skin in their dull cinders. She reached for the lacquered door frame for support with her right hand, her left supporting her head. Her world, still pulsating with disco lights, tamed as her body gradually found its anchor across him.
“Where did you find me?” her lips cracked open and she croaked, almost throwing up at the taste at the back of her tongue, now spreading.
He sat cross-legged over a low table, the steam from the boiling kettle providing a misty frame, clouding her already-distorted vision as she attempted to catch a glimpse through squinted eyes. Calmly lifting the kettle from the fire, he poured the water into a tea cup with a tea flower placed in it.
Holding the cup with both hands, he placed the drink in front of her, “Drink.”
She leaned forward, instinctively following the scent. Reluctantly lifting her hand, warming her fingers around the terracotta, she repeated, “Where did you find me?”
Pouring himself another cup of tea, he smiled and said, “Your name is Lyra Cheng, you are a private investigator whose latest assignment is make contact with a certain businessman in The Bellini and destroy the information he has on him about a certain multi-national company, aren’t you?”
Her eyes widened. She looked up.
He took a sip of his tea, “I am that businessman.”
