Book Bites: Of Root Beer and Brass Whistles

Book BitseTechnically, it was called a Speculative Fiction Tea Party (with less tea and more writing). For us, it was a Speculative Fiction Tea Party (with root beer and a lot of bantering). HAHAHA.

The idea came to The {?} Collective, consisting authors Alvin Pang, Dave Chua, Joyce Chng, and June Yang. June was collecting random stuff from us, quite some time back, with the idea of labelling them and assigning each interested writer with a random item to write about. So we donated a lot of random stuff and appeared on the day itself.

So the line-up from the gang that day (apart from the collective): Mintea, Sarah, and Raven. Nicole and Rozen dropped by for a bit and Max drew his comic instead. This was our table that day…

My item was a brass whistle with an anchor embossed on it. So I just wrote what I could alongside IBC Root Beer and music pumping through my earphones. Mintea got a USB port and a lottery ticket, while Joyce got a clay pendant I donated and a pair of Star Wars chopsticks.

Most of the stories from that day should come up on the Speculative Fiction Writers of Singapore. Since I’m still polishing mine up, hopefully you’ll be able to catch my story later on!
