So thanks to the awesomeness of Sean Wright (a.k.a. Bookonaut/ Blogonaut), my mum and I managed to visit the South Australian Writers Centre in Adelaide. If you were along the main shopping line in Adelaide, the Writers Centre is located along Rundle Street, the street after Rundle Mall.
The centre was on the 2nd level of its building (note: Australia’s levels start with Ground/ Lower Ground) and accessible through a staircase between two shops, so you needed to know where you were going.
It was a quaint office in the heart of town – small but cosy. Upon reaching, Sarah Tooth, the Director of the Writers Centre, gave us a tour of the place.
Generally, most of the staff working there do so part-time, with the Writers Centre being a non-profit organisation. Meetings, events, and other things do happen beyond opening times though.
Going through the tour was rather interesting, especially with the exchange of ideas from both Singapore and Australia. What was interesting was also the new grants South Australia had for its artists and their collaborations, so I do look forward to more links and opportunities in the future.
Then I did a podcast with Sean. Hee. More updates when the podcast is out!
The South Australian Writers Centre is located at the 2nd Floor, 187 Rundle Street.
